FOLLI FOLLIE PROUDLY SPONSORS SPECIAL OLYMPICS HELLAS

Taking always into account the diversity and particularity of each one of the 24 countries in which it operates, Folli Follie develops and implements a strategic and focused Corporate Social Responsibility Program. In this context, it is a great honor for the company to support Special Olympics Hellas, through the program “Adopt an Athlete”. The Special Olympics Greek Athletes always demonstrate remarkable inner strength and never fail to promote the endless love for their country, driving inspiration and motivation in order to achieve their goals.

On Wednesday, January 16, Special Olympics Hellas held a dinner in order to honor the Greek delegation’s sponsors for their aid and support. Mr. Johnnie Voutsas, Vice President, International Division, Folli Follie Group, received the Sponsor’s Award and expressed his respect and admiration towards the great efforts of the Special Olympics athletes.

On Thursday, January 17, a moving ceremony took place at the Atrium of the Zappeion Megaron in the center of Athens, for the Lighting of the Flame of Hope of the X Special Olympics World Winter Games PyeongChang 2013. Mrs. Joanna Despotopoulou, President of Special Olympics Hellas, Mr. Giannis Ioannidis, Deputy Minister of Education and Religious Affairs, Culture and Sports, Dr. Timothy P. Shriver, President of Special Olympics International, Mrs. Na Kyung Won, Chairwoman of the X Special Olympics World Winter Games PyeongChang 2013 and Mr. George Kaminis, Mayor of Athens, all addressed the ceremony that officially launched the Olympic Torch Run from Athens to PyeongChang. The Torch was handed over to the X Special Olympics World Winter Games PyeongChang 2013 Organising Committee and the first Torch Runners from Greece and Korea, Dimitris Klambanis and Kim Min Yung, whereas the Torch Run started from the Zappeion Megaron passing through the most important historical monuments in Athens.

The X Special Olympics World Winter Games PyeongChang 2013 will feature world-class competition in alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, figure skating, snowboarding and speedskating, among other sports. It is expected that 2,300 athletes from 127 countries will participate in the Games, while 500 referees, 1,500 family members, 1,000 journalists and 6,000 volunteers will be in South Korea, in order to applaud and support the efforts of the Special Olympics athletes.
